The Farmers Agency, Inc.

Incorporated October 1st, 1994, The Farmers Agency, Inc. was formed from CMc Agency, which was owned and operated by Connie McMurrian Slade. Multiple Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) and Crop Hail were CMc Agency’s only products. Connie M. Slade had at that time eight years experience in the insurance business. She saw the increasing need to be able to serve her farm clients in all of their insurance needs. Writing through other agents, she was able to acquire new accounts from Auto, Home, Farm, Life and Health in just a short time.

Wesley H. Fiveash, Jr., joined CMc Agency in 1994. While new to the insurance business, he brought with him ample knowledge of the farms within a ten county surrounding area. His access to this sector proved to be very beneficial in his new role as a Life & Health and P&C agent. Wesley Fiveash is a well-known and respected business man for his business interests and contributions to his community. Shortly after his joining CMc Agency, he was offered a partnership. At this point, he and Connie decided to incorporate and change the name to The Farmers Agency, to more accurately reflect the company’s direction at that time.

In March of 2002, Donna W. Griffin, an employee of five years, and Timothy V. Branch, who had joined as a producer in September of 2001, bought out Connie Slade’s interest in The Farmers Agency. Both new partners were licensed and experienced in L&H and P&C insurance. Donna had over seven years L&H experience, having previously operated as an independent general agent, as well as five years P&C experience. Tim had twenty-nine years in the insurance industry, having started in 1973 as an underwriter with St. Paul Fire & Marine and three years later transferring to E.H. Crump as Vice President of their New Orleans, LA office. Tim eventually opened Branch Insurance in his hometown of Tifton, GA.

One week after this transaction, The Farmers Agency purchased a book of business from the Paragon Insurance Services, Inc., branch office located in Tifton, Georgia. Tim had previously owned this same book of business under the Branch Insurance name. He had sold his agency ten years earlier, but had remained as an agent under contract up until the time that he joined The Farmers Agency. The purchase of this new book of business doubled the agency’s size. Within the next year, the agency had tripled in size.

The Farmers Agency, Inc. office is located at 114 North Johnson Street, Ashburn, Georgia. Only one mile west of I-75 in Turner County, the agency serves Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee. This central location has proven to be beneficial in the servicing of accounts from all surrounding areas.

From it’s 1994 beginnings as a small agency of two employees focusing on farm coverages, The Farmers Agency, Inc. has grown to a multi-million dollar agency with a staff of eight employees. Because of major changes in the structure and ownership, combined with the influx of new business, the majority of which has been generated within the last two years, The Farmers Agency has endured and survived some growing pains. However, their primary focus was and still is their client’s needs. From the individual client with a single automobile policy to the commercial industry account with liability, property, inland marine, worker’s compensation, business auto and an umbrella, everyone at The Farmers Agency strives to ensure that their clients are provided the very best in coverage at the most competitive rates available.
